What to Expect

The walks normally take four hours. Visitors will be shown the delights of Edinburgh's famous Royal Mile, the 'old town' and the 'new town', together with a delightful commentary from Stuart on the celebrated characters that hail from the city and the history, culture and architectural splendour of the city.

He will discuss people like JK Rowling (the creator of Harry Potter), Sir Walter Scott (the great historical romance author), Alexander Graham Bell (the inventor of the telephone), Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (the creator of Sherlock Holmes), and the original 'Jekyll and Hyde', Deacon Brodie.

In addition, Stuart speaks with authority on the intellectual giants associated with Edinburgh such as Scotland's national bard, the great Robert Burns, the philosopher David Hume, and the founder of modern economics, Adam Smith.

Places, 'closes' and buildings associated with these individuals will be visited and pointed out, where appropriate.

Also, most of the major historical sites of interest will be covered and you will visit the beautiful St Giles Cathedral and the world-famous National Galleries of Scotland. In the National Galleries you will view paintings from the Old Masters such as Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Raphael, Titian and many others, while Stuart can give his personal insights into the paintings.

The tour can be paused any time you wish for e.g. for refreshments at any of the delightful pubs and eating establishments on the route. (own cost).

There will be plenty of excitement and fun, as well as plenty of opportunities to take some memorable photographs of the best-known landmarks of Scotland's glorious and ancient capital city!
